Win a paperback copy of The Secret Lives of Wives book by Iris Krasnow.
I’m not big into New Year’s resolutions because I believe you can start up something new any day, but I do know some people like them and often put “read more” on their list of things to accomplish for the new year.
If that’s the case, or if your a bookworm like me, you might be interested in winning a copy of The Secret Lives of Wives book by Iris Krasnow.
The book is an interesting one, as it opens a window into the marriages of women across the country. It’s not your typical “advice” book because each woman featured in the book has a different story to tell about what it takes to stay married.
To find out “the secret” to staying married, Krasnow interviewed more than 200 wives whose marriages have survived for 15 to 70 years!
I found the stories to be very truthful and often times shocking. It’s amazing what some women would do to keep their marriage thriving.
For instance, one woman who was in a sexless marriage took on a lover, and her husband just turned his cheek. Some had platonic relationships with men to fill a gap that their husbands couldn’t provide. Others made sure there was lots of girl time with friends, and others vacationed separately from their spouse, some even for the whole summer!
The Secret Lives of Wives book begs the question “Who am I apart from my marriage?” As you read through each story, you will really start to think about it.
The book was eye-opening and if nothing else, made me realize (I’ve only been married for three years!) that I want to work on my marriage over the years WITH my husband and not just by myself.
I understand that I need to have “me time” and time with friends, but I don’t want to look at marriage as something to “get through.”
I honestly read this with an open mind. Woman should do whatever works for them; and that’s the long and short of it.
Who are we as a society to judge or say what is best for others? It was refreshing to read the honesty and see the similarities of the women who were all different ages, from different states and were married for different lengths of time.
If you are married and are looking for something surprising to read, I definitely would suggest Krasnow’s The Secret Lives of Wives.
Iris Krasnow is the author of the New York Times bestseller Surrendering to Marriage, as well as Surrendering to Motherhood, Surrendering to Yourself, and I Am My Mother’s Daughter.
