ShutterCal, a 365 Photo Site {Review and Giveaway}

Disclosure: For the purpose of writing this review ShutterCal gave me a photo shoebox and print credits to test out. I was not paid and all comments are mine and were not influenced in any way.

If you’re like me and find yourself taking a ton of pictures on any given day, you could probably use a little photo organization.

A new 365 photo site called ShutterCal.com encourages you to capture the most important moment of each day.

When the folks at ShutterCal reached out to see if I wanted to try their service, I couldn’t wait to see how a site like this would work for me and my MANY pictures.

The site likens itself as a modern take on the family photo album, except with ShutterCal you store your photos in a shoebox. Intrigued? Yeah, me too. It doesn’t matter what kind of device or photo app you use most, the idea is just to put your best one on ShutterCal.

An interesting feature ShutterCal has is it’s also an online community where you can share and view photos with other members. You can also leave comments on the photos. This could be a cute way to share images with family and friends.

To make the life of moms and dads easier, ShutterCal actually has a free app for your iPhone, which I’ve primarily been using. I’ve found it to be the easiest way to upload my photos since I always take pics with my phone.

Here’s how it works:

  • After you take your photo, upload it to your ShutterCal calender through their website or through the app.
  • Choose the day the photo was taken and then caption it. (That’s a fun feature, the caption ends up getting printed on the back of your photo. However, captioning photos is optional.)
  • Once your month is filled up, ShutterCal’s print service combines your photos and journaling together into packs of prints, delivered monthly throughout your project.

Check out how adorable the ShutterCal shoe box is below! Receiving your monthly prints in the mail could be a new fun and exciting tradition for your family.

Who doesn’t love getting mail? Well, when it’s not a bill, of course! shuttercal-collage

Aren’t the photos adorable? They’re like a throwback, channeling Polaroid pics from my childhood, except way cooler.

The prints I ordered came out beautiful and I really love how it labels them, for example, “Day 13″ with my photo caption. I have mommy brain big time and couldn’t tell you what I ate for breakfast, so this feature has been great!

The awesome folks at ShutterCal, which is a Rhode Island-based company, (shout out to my home state!) wants one of my Mod Mommy readers to try it out too.

One lucky winner will receive a ShutterCal shoebox and a print credit good toward one month of photos. The prize is valued at $34.98.

Enter to win, below! Giveaway runs now through May 1, 2013. Good luck shutterbugs!

GetUncommon Mother’s Day gifts {Review and Giveaway}

Mom’s can celebrate Mother’s Day this year with a special personalized gift they’ll want to keep close to them.

No matter how old your child is, they are bound to produce some great artwork that’s hung proudly on the refrigerator or family bulletin board. And now, thanks to GetUncommon.com, moms can show off these mini masterpieces in a different way, like turning them into a quality iPhone, iPod or iPad case!
Custom accessories for your iPhone, iPad, iPod and more!

I had never heard of customizing an iPhone case until GetUncommon reached out to me and asked if I’d review one of their products. I was psyched that I could turn one of my daughter’s pictures into something functional.

She is 2 1/2 and just around Christmas started to dabble in painting. I chose one of her first pieces to transform into an iPhone case and it came out awesome!

Every single person who has seen it expresses how cool it is, and says “I would love to do something like that!”

Well, now you can, because GetUnCommon is giving away a $50 gift certificate towards their merchandise to a lucky Mod Mommy reader! This could make for a great Mother’s Gift to yourself or a loved one. :)

What I love about it:

* The case is beautiful and durable. A must if you have small children playing with your electronics. (Side note, the case is plastic and be a bit slippery if you are used to a rubberized one. But, still very sturdy.)

* The website is user-friendly. There aren’t a lot of steps to complete your creation. It literally took me minutes to make my case.

* If you don’t have an image to upload, they have tons of ready made designs from fantastic artists to choose from. Most recently, I’ve seen celebs like Kristen Stuart and Kendall Jenner rocking GetUncommon phone cases!

Creating your own Apple product case is super easy. Here’s how!

* First, upload a personal image. Snap a quick picture of your favorite piece, upload it to GetUncommon.com and create your case design! The Uncommon Configurator enables you to position, scale and rotate your image.

* Then, they make it UnCommon. They’re exclusive 3D TATT® (Thermo-Active Transdermal Technology) printing process transfers the ink deep into the case’s surface–much like a tattoo to ensure long-lasting vibrant designs. Sweet!

*Finally, GetUnCommon will package up your case and ship it to you quickly. Most orders are shipped within two to four business days.

Buy it: Right now, there’s a great Mother’s Day special happening on GetUncommon.com. This would make for a wonderful gift for a grandparent too!

Making homemade baby food? Try storing in a reusable pouch

When my two-year-old was an infant I made all of her baby food. To many it seemed like a lot of work, but I thought it was easy because I did most of my cooking one day a week and then froze it all. However, there was one tiny hurdle of making my food though, and that was traveling with it.

In a pinch I would buy disposable food pouches so she could eat on the go, but that got costly fast. I’m so happy to have learned of Squooshi so I don’t make that same mistake once my son starts eating solids in a few months.

Squooshi
is a reusable food pouch for baby food that can hold all of your favorite homemade recipes. They come in adorable packaging, so even a picky eater will want to use it!

squooshi

Squooshi was kind enough to send me a sample of their product to test out. I received the assorted 4 pack for review.

The assorted pack contains two small pouches that can hold 2.5 ounces, and two large pouches that hold 4.5 ounces.

Here’s how it works:

Gather your favorite ingredients, cooked or raw. Puree or mash to a consistency of thick applesauce.

Next, fill your Squooshi ¾ full with chilled or room temperature mixture. Grab and go or freeze for later.

And because it’s reusable, just pop it in the dishwasher or wash by hand. I love that you can use it again and again.

My daughter just adores the animals on the pouches. She likes to pick her food by which animal pouch she wants to eat from that day. I know I’m going to have to buy four more pouches once my 11 week old starts eating solids, they definitely won’t want to share! :)

Cool Squooshi features:

* Extra sturdy zip-lock bottom for easy-to-fill and easy-to-clean convenience & usability.
* Unique designs make even picky eaters happy.
* Compatible with spoon attachments.
* Great for baby food, yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies and more.
* Freeze, store and serve from the same container. No more freezer cubes needed!
* Made BPA-free, PVC-free, Lead-free, Phthalate-free with puncture resistant plastic.

If you’re new to cooking your own baby food, Squooshi’s website offers a bunch of recipes for kids of all ages.

Here’s a great Squooshi recipe for early eaters!

Apple-Liscious Oatmeal

Prepare 1/2 C cooked rolled oats.
Add 2 tsp applesauce.
1 pinch of cinnamon.
Spoon into your favorite Squooshi reusable food pouch.

Disclosure: I received an assorted pack of Squooshi reusable food pouches for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions expressed are mine.
