Hilarious read: Diary of a Mad Fat Girl

Reading has been something I try to keep consistent in my life. Even though I have an 18-month-old, and trust me, she keeps me plenty busy; I still find time to read. My latest book was a hilarious fiction novel written by Stephanie McAfee. It’s McAfee’s first book and it’s called Diary of a Mad Fat Girl.

If I immediately fall in love with a book, it doesn’t take me long to read. This book was not only fun, but fast moving. The main character, Ace Jones is a hoot, and right from the first page you feel like you are the best of friends.

Ace is a sharp-tongued, witty, no-nonsense kind of gal and you can’t help but root for her throughout the obstacles she faces in the book.

The scenarios Ace and her friends get involved with are down-right crazy, sometimes ridiculous (ie: a lot of high-tech spying and dressing in drag), but they will make you laugh out loud. All of this happens as Ace tries to right the wrongs that have visited her friends.

This books reminds me of Sex and the City, but in the south. You can almost hear the southern drawl as you rip through the pages.

One of the main reasons why I enjoyed this book is due to the characters. They are all loveable and unique. My personal favorite was Ace’s “Chiweenie” dog, Buster Loo. While he’s a small dog, he carries a large presence in the book. And I couldn’t help but think of my Lhasa Poo, Riley, while reading it.

It may still be winter, but you can escape to a warmer climate with Stephanie McAfee’s Diary of a Mad Fat Girl.

Interesting fact about the book: McAfee originally self-published this as an e-book, it was on the NY Times best-sellers list for 6 weeks before she signed a book deal. That’s pretty awesome.
