You want to feel old? Can you believe the Cabbage Patch dolls turned 30 this year?! I remember when I got mine back in the 80s. Her name was Claudina and she always smelled like baby powder. Wasn’t that the best?
To commemorate this huge milestone, my sister, daughter and I attended a CPK 30th Anniversary event in New York City on Saturday, September 21.
Guests attending the celebration had the unique chance to experience Cabbage Patch Kids throughout the years at the 30 Years of Cabbage Patch Kids Gallery, and also adopt their very own Cabbage Patch Kid!
My daughter looked like she was in heaven when she had the opportunity to choose her own doll.
Activities at the event:
- Official Adoption Station (complete with birth certificate)
- Cabbage Patch Kids Care Stations
- Photos with Cabbage Patch Kids costume characters
- Story-time and coloring activities
- Birthday party complete with song and cupcakes
We had a great time and it was special to see my daughter adopt her first Cabbage Patch Doll. The doll came with a name, but she changed it three times already! First it was Tori Veronica, then Sadie Reese and now it’s Sara. Hopefully one of them sticks!
My favorite traits about these dolls are the fact that they don’t require batteries (still!), smell great, and that they are soft like stuffed animals. That alone makes them fun to cuddle with!
It’s not often that we can introduce our kids to a toy that we ourselves had fond memories playing with.
Here’s to another 30 years Cabbage Patch Kids! Thanks for all of the good times!

Moms – did you own a Cabbage Patch doll? And do you remember the name?

Hi. Can someone please help me. What’s the reason for different coloured cabbage patch kids’ birth certificates? Some are green and some are pink. Thanks for the help.
Tarnya says
P.S. I know that different coloured signatures (on the CPKs bottoms) signifies the different year they were made.
Courtney says
I’ve never noticed that! Good catch! Now I need to Google that too to see if I can dig up anything!
Tarnya says
Hi again! I think the pink birth certificates might be for the smaller 12 inch cabbage patch kids. I think the 16 inch ones have green birth certificates but I’m not sure. I tried to find answers on google but couldn’t.
Courtney says
That makes sense! 🙂

My CPK was the one and only doll that I actually enjoyed playing with! You’re so right – the smell was so special 🙂 I’m pretty sure mine was bald, and I occasionally envied my friends who had the crimp and curl CPK dolls 😉
Courtney says
Haha that’s hilarious!

i owned six. I can’t remember their names but one was a preemie, one was from Spain (special edition style.. I rocked), and two were twin girls. I also had a Koosa, which was the animal one of the time. It’s a fond memory.
Courtney says
Wow! I don’t remember Koosa…but the one from Spain sounds fun!

CPK are totally growing up with awesome new stuff for babes to learn with and from. I can’t wait to get one for Addie!
Sarah @ Sweetlilyou says
It was such a fun event I’m glad we were able to share it with our daughters!!! I don’t remember the name of my first (1983) but the second one was named Barbie, and the third, a boy, was Clifton Reed haha
Oh, and I think she should stick with “Sara” but maybe add and h at the end 😉
Courtney says
It was so great! Chloe picked a good doll name, huh?!
Bri says
Oh my goodness. Cabbage Patch! Brings me back. Let’s see….I had a preemie (Spring Cecilia), a brown-haired girl (Calla), and twin boys — Andrew and Charlie. I remember that the girl had a deformed foot — her toes weren’t sewn properly — and my parents wanted to take her back to the store, but I wouldn’t let them! My first foray into parenting a child with disabilities, I guess!
Courtney says
Wow! Great memory! You had quite a few CPK doll. 🙂
