We are smack in the middle of summer and your kids are getting antsy and maybe need some new things to do. So, what now? Get creative and turn some simple activities into something special.
Watch the above video or read below to see some free and fun ideas to test out on the kids:
Make the inflatable pool fun again!
Take an outdoor bubble bath. Keep your bathing suit on of course…but parents can fill the inflatable pool with bubbles, throw some toys in and have the kids try to find them under the foam. We’ve been using a magnetic fishing set, but any small pool or bath toy will work out great.
Build ice castles and towers
Gather plastic containers or Tupperware at home that’s crowding the cupboards, fill various sized containers up with water. Freeze them, and when they’re ready to go, pop the blocks out and the kids can build ice castles and towers outside. As they melt, it’ll be a nice way to cool down.
For super hot days or rainy days, whip out the ol’ Busy Box
Have a ‘Busy Box’ on hand filled with craft activities that are age appropriate for your child. You can keep clay or play dough inside, markers, crayons, stickers, a glue stick, construction paper, tissue paper etc…Any day it rains or is just too hot to go outside, my toddler and I resort to the craft box and make something fun out of it. Plus it’s easy and much cleaner having all of your art supplies in one location.
If you don’t want to build your own busy box, ALEX Toys (Ages 3+) sells a great one.
What are your fun, free activities to do at home with the kids?

I LOVE the ice blocks idea! Have never tried that, but totally going to do it! Here’s another favorite at our house: feelie goop on the porch! http://www.multiplerealitiesblog.com/2012/08/feelie-goop-on-the-porch.html
Oh that’s great, thanks for sharing!
Great summer time ideas! FUN!
Thanks for checking it out, Kristin!
Love the ice castles idea! We made a giant sand castle today but the beach isn’t always an option. Thanks!
I hear that! We tried the beach for the first time with our two littles and my husband was like “we should’ve stayed home!” haha. It’s a lot of work. 🙂
Great tips! I will have to try the ice blocks and towers- great idea!
Thanks Shell!
You could put the ice blocks in the pool, my kids would love that. I took some balloons and filled them with water and put those in the pool, the kids had a blast.
Oooh I love the water balloon idea! Thanks Heather!
