A Mom’s Must Haves for Cold & Flu Season + $25 Visa Giveaway

October 11, 2017 By Courtney

This post has been sponsored by Zoono USA. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The temperature is still reading high 70s here in New England, but my family has already had their first round of colds and missed some school.

All it takes is one of the kids to have the sniffles, and then we all get it. I know the pattern well and I’m always the last one to get to the illness.

I’m not a doctor, but I do know my needs during cold and flu season.

Tissues

Seems like a no-brainer. But, during cold and flu season I am sure to keep a box in each bedroom, bathroom and in our family and living room. It may seem excessive, but with six of us potentially sneezing all over the place, I need tissues at the ready. A good time to stock up is when the store has a sale like 10/$10 or something similar.

Cool Mist Humidifier

Cool mist humidifiers are a staple in our home during the winter. I actually like to use mine even when I’m not sick. During colder months, indoor air is drier due to having the heat on. The cool mist humidifier keeps the air moist and allows for better breathing. It also does a nice job of breaking up a stuffy nose, and helping itchy skin or dry lips due to low humidity.

Thermometer

We have a few thermometers in the house. We have an oral digital thermometer, an ear thermometer and a temporal artery thermometer. I like the latter the most because it’s completely non-invasive. If my kids are sleeping, I can find out their temp without disturbing them and determine whether they may need medicine.

Sports Drinks

When kids aren’t feeling well, it’s important to stay hydrated. Especially if someone is losing fluids through vomiting or diarrhea. (I know it’s unpleasant, but we’ve all been there! 🙈) We don’t typically have these drinks in the house, but during the colder months, I’ll keep a few in my pantry along with some Pedialyte. Both are staples for electrolyte replacement.

Hand Sanitizer

Throughout the day, we may touch hundreds of surfaces, each covered with tens of thousands of microbes, half of which will stick to your hands. Here’s the lowdown on some of the germs you may encounter:

  • Doorknob: 8,643 bacteria
  • Computer mouse: 79,000 bacteria
  • Remote control: 17,000 bacteria

Almost seems unbelievable, right? That’s why it’s so important to wash your hands regularly.

As a mom, I know we are not always near the sink. Especially, when we are at the zoo, playground, car or a restaurant. It’s not always easy for me to leave a restaurant table with four kids to head to the bathroom!

Because of situations like those, we keep hand sanitizer in the house, my diaper bag and in the car. Because kids touch everything and then they touch us! 😱

I really like Zoono GermFree24® products. Zoono GermFree24® Hand Sanitizer is an FDA-compliant, water-based hand sanitizer that kills 99.99% of germs on contact and keeps killing them for up to 24 hours. Amazing stuff.

  • I’m giving away some Zoono GermFree24® products. Scroll down to enter!

Did you know that traditional alcohol-based hand sanitizers only work while they are wet and quickly evaporate? GermFree24® kills germs all day with one application. I just love this stuff!

The spray hand sanitizer fits perfect in my diaper bag, too.

It also doesn’t rub off and remains active on the skin’s surface, even with hand washing and sweating.

Giveaway

If you’d like to win a $25 virtual Visa gift card, (1) Zoono GermFree24® 50ml Foam Hand Sanitizer and (1) Zoono GermFree24® 9ml Spray Hand Sanitizer, be sure to enter my giveaway below!
