Offer me pie and I promise I won’t turn you down. I love it so much that I stick candles on top of one every year for my birthday.
I recently was invited to tour the new pastry shop, CAKE by Franck, inside Foxwoods and of course, I said “when should I be there?!”
The store has been opened by world-renown Chef Franck Iglesias and it does not disappoint. The space is simply beautiful and is one of the most interesting pastry shops I’ve ever been to.
Upon entering CAKE by Franck, you’ll find American classics like pies and muffins, a super fun Build Your Own Waffle Bar and other unique homemade pastries. It’s no wonder Chef Franck was recently named a 2016 Top Pastry Chef by Dessert Professional magazine!
Much like Chef Franck, both the shop and pastries were warm, fun, bright and inviting.
During the exclusive media tour, we learned about Chef Franck’s vision of his new shop and where he draws inspiration.
He said he plans to feature foods of the season multiple times a year, focusing on what’s growing at that moment. He said to be on the lookout for rhubarb treats in the coming months. ??
After the tour, Chef Franck taught a quick cake decorating tutorial where we learned about frosting, toppings and pastry bags.
I typically decorate cakes with a butter knife, so this lesson was much-needed!
Next, we took part in a cake decorating contest and put our newly learned skills to the test. It was a blast and the best part? We got to keep our cakes!
Here’s Chef Franck judging mine! ?
Decorating the cakes was a lot of fun, and I’ll admit it was much harder to come up with an idea than it was to actually decorate the cake. I decorated a vanilla and chocolate one. Check them out below!
While I didn’t win the contest, I was able to mail my dad in Florida one of my cakes, which was pretty cool!
Coming soon, customers will also be able to send cakes anywhere with the shop’s feature “Air Franck.”
Now, you can have your cake and eat it wherever you want!
CAKE by Franck is located on the Concourse Level of the Great Cedar Hotel inside Foxwoods. It’s open 7 days a week. Visit foxwoods.com for hours of operation and the menu.
Thank you to Foxwoods for inviting me to this fun event!
