When there’s so much to eat, how do you choose?

November 21, 2012 By Courtney

We live in such a decadent country and society it makes me feel kind of guilty to even write a fun post like this. But, I am grateful daily for how fortunate I am and thankful for so much this Thanksgiving.

Just this morning, my husband and I were texting back and forth about what we’re excited to eat tomorrow, (we are such foodies), and it got me thinking about what other family’s table spreads look like.

We are Italian, and on this very, American holiday, we sneak in some Italian traditions, and both of us are most excited for that.

My family likes to serve an Antipasto for our salad and Italian Wedding Soup shortly after. Just that alone leaves me full, but of course wanting more.

We’re pretty traditional after, with a menu that looks like this:

Turkey:
my mother chose to get the same turkey the Obama’s are going to have at the White House. Should be good!

Sides:
Carrots
Butternut Squash Puree (I’m using the Pioneer Woman’s recipe this year!)
Mashed Potatoes
String Beans
Homemade stuffing with turkey sausage
Homemade cranberry sauce (This will be my first year making it!)

Dessert:
Apple Pie (my secret recipe that my family asks me to make every year!)
Assorted cookies and Italian cookies (I bought a tasty cookie tray from fellow blogger Tera Norberg at Girl Gone Healthy!)
Coffee, Tea etc…

P.S. I’m only responsible for making what’s in parenthesis, thank goodness!

What is something non-traditional that your family serves at Thanksgiving?

My in-laws do lasagna…and they’re NOT italian, they’re Irish. 15 years and I still don’t get it. I find it completely bizarre. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.

No one in my family is ever really a fan of turkey but for tradition’s sake we make a small one but make a nice ham. We also do traditional Cuban foods such as rice and beans as sides. Your apple pie sounds amazing, it’s my favorite dessert =)
