There are so many things about the fall that I just love. They are feelings I don’t get any other time of the year.
Is it the change in weather? The fact that it’s back to school time and it makes me feel like I’m starting a new year too with a clean slate? Or is it the fact that New England, Rhode Island included, looks most beautiful?
Even though mornings like today were crisp and cool, the fact that the season is changing into my favorite time of year has me feeling warm inside and ready for what’s to come.
I’m looking forward to:
The change in leaves. Every year I say I’m going to go leaf-peeping, and this year I swear, I’m going to make it happen!
Apple picking. I’m not much of a baker, but my specialty is homemade apple pie, and I cannot wait to make them, especially for my family on Thanksgiving.
Hanging up my fall decorations. I’ve already hung my fall flag! It’s the first of many decorations to hit my house in the coming weeks. I’m pumped my mom gave me one of her scarecrows to put in my yard, so now I have two. I’m such a nerd, but I love this stuff. I also have a fall cutting board. I don’t mess around!
Pumpkins!ย Pumpkin anything is just about the be-all end-all for me in the fall. Coffee, cookies, dog bones, you name it. If the recipe will allow, I will add it. Painting pumpkins is also a fun activity I plan to do with my toddler. I’m ready to hit the patch as soon as it’s not too early to display them!
Trick or Treating. I’m not into scary Halloween stuff, but I love seeing my daughter dress up and be excited to show off her costume. She’s 3 now, so I think this year will be our most fun yet!
Tagging our Christmas tree. This could be by far my favorite. We’ve made some great memories doing this, and I’m excited for my 7-month-old to come with us this year. We also bring Riley, our dog, he doesn’t like being left out of such big events. ๐
Holiday music. I know, I know. The holidays are WEEKS away. But, this change in season reminds me that I can crank holiday music in the near future. And I’m not embarrassed to say I will jam out the day after Halloween. I just love it, it puts me in such a good mood!
As, Elizabeth Lawrence said, “Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.”
How do you enjoy the autumn? And what’s your favorite season?
Fall is going to be so pretty here in New England! Can’t wait!
I love fall too! It’s always been my favorite time of year. But like you, I also hate scary stuff. The good news is New England is full of fall day trip destinations. You should read Yankee magazine – if you don’t get it already I know you would love it!
I was just recently making a list in my head about all the things I love about fall! I can’t wait to make my apple crisp – it’s my favorite thing to bake (and eat)!
I love Fall!!!!!! Oh my gosh. I need to do a post like this. I am SO excited for this season… Football being my favorite ๐
Those are all the things I absolutely LOVE about fall…I’m just not ready for it yet. Slowly getting there…I can’t wait to make some turkey chili and apple pie ๐
Courtney – I have no idea why my words “fleece jackets” grabbed a link. Sorry about that…
No problem, Sharon! I think it was automated or something. Let me look into that.
I could have written this one myself!!This is definitely my favorite season, for many of the same reasons ๐ Can’t wait for it to get here!
I am so excited for Fall! Today I even broke out a sweater and a scarf! The only thing I’m not looking forward to is wearing warmer footwear. I love my little colored ballet flats and don’t want to pack them away!
I know it! I love my ballet flats too. ๐
I love that October brings my birthday! AND I love apple picking and pumpkin choosing at those places with the tractors and hay and scarecrows. I love cool nights with the windows cracked open. I love early candlelight dinners with my husband. I love Mums of all colors. I love warm socks and fleece jackets with hoods – the autumn moons – squawking geese overhead – the deep autumn blue of the Bay – first hot chocolates of the season… I guess I love Fall! Thanks for getting me in the Fall mood today!
Well said, Sharon!! I love everything you said too. Lovely!
I also like to crank the holiday music after Halloween!
Glad I’m not alone!! ๐
Apple picking! Apple pies! This year I am gonna try to make applesauce to make my own food pouches for the kids!
Awesome! I make homemade apple sauce. Food pouches are a great idea!
Autumn is my favorite season too! I love the smell of the air, the changing leaves, wearing cozy sweaters, apple/pumpkin picking, apple cider, football!!!!!
Can’t forget about sweaters and boots! ๐
