We’re nearing the end of International Babywearing Week (IBW) and I thought I’d take a moment to celebrate. IBW is held each October to celebrate babywearing around the world.
This year’s theme is “Share the Adventure” and moms everywhere have been sharing photos of themselves with their babies doing every day things to some amazing outings.
I didn’t really understand the importance or ease of babywearing with my first child. But, when I had my second, it was the only way to stop him from crying during his colicky moments. It also made cooking or playing with my then 2-year-old a lot easier.
Now, with my third, I wear him a lot. Mostly because I know all the great benefits and because it allows me to do anything with my two other small children.
Did you know one study found that carried 6-week-olds cried 43% less than other children? According to Babywearing International, Inc, “babywearing promotes bonding, supports breastfeeding, can help postpartum depression and can even be a lifesaver for parents of high-needs children.”
The act of babywearing has proven that carried babies sleep, feed and grow better. Pretty amazing.
And the coolest thing about is, anyone can do it. Moms, dads, siblings, even grandparents!
There’s no right or wrong carrier. There are tons of options out there to fit anyone’s needs or budget. I’ve tried three carriers over time and so far, my personal favorite is the Ergo baby carrier. (That’s the one seen in the picture above.)
So, moms, let’s join in and celebrate and #wearallthebabies! There’s two days left. The IBW hashtag for posting photos online (for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) is #intlbabywearingweek.
October 10th’s theme is Flexible Friday and October 11th’s is Share Your City Saturday.
What kinds of things have you done while wearing your baby?
