I don’t typically post super serious stuff on my blog, but I do work at a news station for a living and I’m privy to tons of information, especially important notices about product recalls or consumer advisories.
This particular headline made me want to share it with fellow moms as soon as I read it.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is now suing the manufacturer of Nap Nanny after the tragic deaths of five babies. (I know several people who have these for their infants or have registered for them, so it’s definitely a message I want to pass on.)
The CPSC claims the first and second generation of Nap Nanny and Chill Infant recliners contain defects in the design, warnings and instructions. The first two versions were recalled back in 2010.
The government said its received more than 70 additional incident reports of children nearly falling out of the recliners.
The commission said they’re seeking an order that would require Nap Nanny maker Baby Matters LLC to notify the public of the defects and to issue consumers a FULL refund.
It turns out Baby Matters went out of business a month ago. On the company’s website, owner and founder Leslie Gudel said “We do not believe the complaint has merit and stand behind the safety of our product when used as instructed.”

I have the nap nanny and absolutely love it. I don’t think we could have gotten my son to sleep the first few months without it. We never had any issues at all.
I actually think its a great product too. Some people just don’t use things right and then it prompts a recall.
Wow this is terrifying – thanks For sharing. We don’t have one I these and I won’t be looking at them anytime soon!
I love the idea of the nap nanny, and have friends who swear by it. I do wish that parents would use baby products correctly, because truly it isn’t the fault of the company if something happens to the child due to improper use. I can’t imagine how devastating it would be to have a child hurt or killed, but suing the company isn’t going to help. But this is a good reminder to all parents to use your baby products the way they were intended! Thanks for sharing Courtney ๐
I totally agree with you Megan!
Scary stuff, particularly as someone with a lot of friends who have babies. It’s so hard to keep track of all the recalls and suing of manufacturers.
It is scary stuff. It seems like we hear about recalls way too often. They serve as good reminders though!
This is so shocking…like when the Bumbo was recalled. I just don’t get what people are thinking??
I know it, why don’t people read directions and use things properly?
That is so scary!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Anytime! Thanks for visiting Kristin! ๐
We have the nap nanny! I had no idea about this!
I would have never have guessed either.
