Indoor Fun: 3 Ways Your Kids Can Shake Their Sillies Out

October 5, 2015 By Courtney

My two boys are so active. They are two and a half and one years old. They get in to anything and everything.

I’ve recently had to add an extra lock on our front and side doors because my 2-year-old unlocks the dead bolt so easily. It’s crazy. My daughter, who is now 5, would have never even attempted to touch the front door, let alone unlock it.

My team of double trouble needs a little more than a kid-proofed house. They need to exercise. They need their attention re-directed or else they will be climbing the walls. Literally.

Now that it’s fall, it’s been a challenge to keep busy indoors. During the summer, we stayed out most of the day just running through the yard or playing with friends.

The weather has been kind of yucky as of late, so we’ve been shaking our sillies out in other ways.

My littlest guy loves to bang things together. Usually it’s anything that lives in my cabinets, but that got annoying to clean up, so it’s back to playing with their own toys.

Some fun ideas to get out the wiggles:

1. Bring summer beach pails indoors and turn them upside down and use them as a drum. It’s a lot of fun and they are the perfect size for those little hands.

Turn on some music and you have yourself a marching band!

2. Obstacle courses and mazes are always tiresome. So, why not create your own? All three of my kids pull every pillow off the couch at some point during the day. (Another fun game to clean up! haha) They generally like to lay on them and build forts and pretend their camping.

Crawling on them and being just plain silly will definitely tire out those little legs. I don’t recommend standing on the pillows because your kids will most likely slip and fall. But, crawling all over them is always a good time. I make my 2-year-old and 5-year-old help clean up, so that burns energy, too!

3. Scavenger Hunt. This can be super fun and really easy. Your kids will enjoy looking for just about anything. Sometimes we play this when I can’t find my iPhone! My phone runs dead often, so I ALWAYS need help locating it. They’re always good sports and I’ll offer a reward for whoever finds it first.

But, seriously, hide anything. And give them a turn. It’s kind of like hide and seek but, you hide an item instead. Tip: I’d stay away from hiding small stuff. A stuffed animal or a large toy works well.

And now that my littlest biscuit is on the move, his diapers need to keep up with him.

In fact, Huggies new Little Movers Diapers have a Moving Baby System. They have a grip to them, easy fit, and a DryTouch liner that absorbs on contact, so babies are not interrupted as they are kicking and screaming. All in good fun, of course!
