Fun Facts about Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee

May 24, 2016 By Courtney

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post but all opinions about Dunkin’ Donuts are my own.

Dunkin’ Donuts Iced Coffee is one day away.

The company’s annual event is a fundraising initiative that benefits Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

$1 from every iced coffee sold will be donated from participating Dunkin’ Donuts in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

The campaign launched in 2010. And since then, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees have raised nearly $775,000 for the children’s hospital. I know why that number is so high. Dunkin’ Donuts sells 60 cups of coffee per second. And 1.9 billion cups a year.

I knew we all ran on Dunkin’, but I had no idea we drank that much coffee. Fascinating.

I learned that fun fact from a recent roundtable discussion I had with other local bloggers and Janet Rock, Senior Research and Development Technologist on the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee team.

Janet wears many hats, but her primary focus is on coffee-based beverages like hot coffee, iced coffee, espresso drinks and the flavors used in coffee.

Fun facts about Dunkin’ Donuts coffee:

  • Dunkin’ Donuts gets the beans for all blends from South and Central America.
  • The beans come to the United States green and are roasted here.
  • There are 8,500 U.S. stores and 3,300+ international stores in 44 countries.
  • According to research and development, customers like smooth and full-flavored coffees.
  • While there are four standard coffee flavors, the most popular flavor among customers is caramel.
  • Dunkin’ Donuts use filtered water to brew their coffee. (That explains why it tastes the same everywhere I go!)

While at our roundtable discussion, we had the chance the sample some tasty pairings.

We sampled:

  1. Iced Dark Roast Coffee with Chocolate Cake Donut
  2. Iced French Vanilla Coffee with Blueberry Cobbler Croissant Donut
  3. Iced Caramel Latte with Boston Kreme Donut
  4. Strawberry Banana Smoothie with Bacon, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich on a Toasted Plain Bagel.

I have to say I was most surprised by the Dunkin’ Dark Roast. I thought it’d be too noticeably dark and it wasn’t. It was smooth and tasty.

And holy moly, I need to have more of that Blueberry Cobbler Croissant Donut in my life. I was expecting it to be too sweet. It was not. At all.

The inside was tart and the donut was buttery thanks to the croissant hybrid and the sprinkling of sugar was just enough. Oh my, so good.

When I head to Dunkin’ Donuts on Iced Coffee Day, I think I’ll order something new. It’s the perfect day to shake things up a bit. While you’ll be treating yourself on May 25, you’ll also be helping others.
