Children’s Book a Useful Way to Learn About Pet Adoption

October 29, 2017 By Courtney

Ever since my daughter has started reading, she has been opened to a whole new world. She’s reading street signs, labels and of course, lots of books!

Each week she checks out animal books at the library and then reads them over and over. You should hear all of the things we’ve learned about kittens, bunnies, puppies and even tree frogs!

Lately, we’ve been enjoying this wonderful new book called Maverick and Me.

It was written by ASPCA Ambassador Katherine Schwarzenegger and emphasizes the importance of dog adoption while empowering kids to advocate for animals in need.

Maverick and Me is based upon the life of Katherine’s rescue dog and does a nice job teaching children to “adopt and not shop.”

It’s uplifting and really makes you feel for little Maverick when he’s abandoned as a puppy. This book could be a great tool for parents who want to explain the importance of animal rescue.

Book description:

When Maverick is found huddled under a highway overpass, a kind woman carries him home, nurses him back to health, and brings him to a local adoption event. There he meets Scarlett, a young girl who gives him a forever home.

Heartfelt and moving, Maverick and Me shows children the importance of pet rescue and empowers them to advocate for animals in need. Readers of all ages will cherish Maverick’s story of love, friendship, and second chances.
