{Progresso™ Light Soup Review} New Year, New Habits

January 12, 2015 By Courtney

Progresso Light SoupI’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do understand why people do them.

Instead of quitting bad habits, I like the idea of starting a healthy habit and sticking to it. There’s no better time than the new year, because it’s an easy date to remember and you can hold yourself accountable.

I’ve been doing a ton of “eating healthy” reading and pinning, so I’ve become obsessed with making small changes in my diet and lifestyle.

I’m aware that it’s easy to get off track and honestly, it’s no big deal if I veer off course for a few days or so because I’m still developing my new lifestyle. So, if you’re in the same boat as me, keep that in mind.

One small change I started right before the new year was drinking a cup of warm water with lemon and honey first thing in the morning. I read an article about all of the health benefits and realized I needed to add this to my daily routine.

I usually have coffee first thing, so it’s been an adjustment, but I already feel better.

Another small change I’ve been trying is to not finish my kids meals.

I have three children and my youngest is six months old and my oldest is 4. In a nutshell, mealtime is a juggling act. It’s chaotic because the kids eat two hours before my husband and I, and my littlest guy is usually hungry when the other two are, and he’s breastfed.

Progresso™'s Light Creamy Chicken Alfredo SoupIt’s getting easier as time goes by, but I’m usually famished too. Breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day, so I’m pretty much hungry ALL THE TIME.

In an effort to not munch on what my kids fail to finish, I’ve been eating something small with them.

By having my own plate I’m better able to keep track of what I eat.

Honestly, after three kids, I’m not trying to be super skinny; I just want to be healthy and strong.

A few months ago I incorporated Progresso™ Light soup into my meal or snack time as a quick and easy way to curb my hunger.

Progresso™Light soup is ready to eat, 100 calories or less, and comes in 40 different flavors. There are still so many I haven’t tried!

I have four flavors that have quickly become favorites.

Progresso Light Chicken Pot Pie Style and Italian Style Meatball SoupChicken Pot Pie Style – Smooth, comforting and sticks to your ribs. This truly tasted like Chicken Pot Pie, but in a bowl. The broth resembled a creamy pot pie gravy accompanied by all the usual pot pie fixings. I paired this warm bowl of soup with a small biscuit. It made for the perfect lunch on a cold, winter day.

Italian Style Meatball –Robust, meaty and spicy. When I say spicy, I don’t mean grab a glass of water. I’m talking about just a little kick. The broth is tomato-based with just the right amount of basil and oregano. The penne pasta and vegetables make this flavorful soup very filling.

*These two I sampled a few months ago and still enjoy them in my meal rotation.*

Progresso™'s Light Savory Beef Barley Vegetable and Creamy Chicken Alfredo SoupLight Creamy Chicken Alfredo – Creamy, smooth and cheesy. This one was delicious and compared well to an actual chicken Alfredo pasta dish. I also liked that it wasn’t salty. With canned soups that’s usually the first thing you taste. Not with this one.

Savory Beef Barley Vegetable – Hearty, meaty and sort of nutty. This was a hybrid for me. I’d say it’s a cross between a beef stew and a minestrone. Both are equally awesome in their own way, so to combine them is just genius.

2015 is going to be my year of developing ways to feel my best. Throughout this process I know I will also begin my journey of looking my best, too. I have no timeline of when I’ll complete this goal because as I said, I want to develop a lifestyle of good habits. This process will be ongoing with new habits added along the way.

As a busy mom, it’s nice to incorporate simple food choices like Progresso™ Light soups to help me reach my goals.

Cheers to a new year, new health habits and a better you!

My wife always has a can or two of progresso in the cabinet for “emergencies.” The light option is definitely the right way to go for lower sodium, and you can always enhance it a bit with some fresh ingredients of your own.
