I am a to-do list maker by nature. I can turn anything into a list. I think it’s the thrill of crossing things off that really makes it worth my while. 🤣
This is the first summer I’ve created a paper list of fun family adventures. This is not because I want to be organized, it’s because we all have things we want to do during this short season and why not write it down and be sure we actually follow through?
There are several reasons why making a list is a great idea.
- The list gives everyone in your family a voice and teaches your children about taking turns, compromise and opens their eyes to new adventures suggested by others.
- From a parent’s point of view, the list serves as a great planner. Now, you have a list of options and all you need to do is choose when to do them based on the forecast.
- No matter how many to-do’s you have on your list, it is sure to be a memorable summer for you and your children. Plus, it will give them plenty to write about in their school journals in September!
I’m not going to be a stickler about checking everything off the list, it truly is meant as a guide. But, I do feel it is important to do at least one thing each person of the family has suggested.
Below is our actual list. It is a mix of free adventures and ones that cost money. You can make your list as long or as short as you want.
So far, so good on the family bike rides. We’ve gone on two already, so we are thrilled we were able to pull that off!
I love that my kids picked simple, laid back adventures, too. Family game night and staying up late are easy to do and fun for everyone. I have a feeling we will do those more than once!
I’m also excited about seeing fireworks. The state of Rhode Island offers so many fireworks displays it’s hard to choose during this time of year. We are fortunate to live by a beach in our town where we can see fireworks from our front porch every year. However, we have never been close enough to sit under them.
I’ve made a free printable if you’d like to make your own checklist. Click here to print. All you need to do is hand write your adventures in next to the check box.
