I’ve never been too busy to notice a pregnancy. I’ve always been very in tune with my body and knew almost right away. Not this time.
Someone call the TLC Network and tell them you know someone who’d be great for their show “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant.”
The last three months of 2016 were very busy and out of the norm for me. Most days I didn’t know whether I was coming or going.
In October, we went on our long-awaited Disney trip. Vacation with three small kids always does a number on you.
On said trip, we found out my aunt was losing her battle with cancer. She passed two days after we returned home from that trip. That took a toll.
My beloved dog, Riley, collapsed the day of my aunt’s funeral and needed emergency surgery due to a ruptured spleen with cancerous tumors. After his diagnosis of Hemangiosarcoma, the vet gave my 8-year-old dog and best friend, only weeks to live. That’s pretty much all I thought about from then on.
My dog passed away the week before Christmas and I’ve been dealing with grief ever since.
Through all of this, I was pregnant and didn’t know. I haven’t had a normal period since 2010, so going months without one is typical for me.
If I felt tired, it’s because I have three kids and my emotions were going haywire due to the deaths of my aunt and dog.
Throughout December, I was certain I was gaining holiday weight.
I may or may not have walked around with my pants unbuttoned for a few weeks.
I was ready to buy meal replacement shakes as part of a new years resolution.
Fortunately, I’ve never had morning sickness or nausea for any of my pregnancies, so that obvious symptom was nowhere to be found.
On a hunch, the day after Christmas, I went digging under my vanity for some pregnancy tests I had stashed from my third child.
I took some tests at 6 p.m and those double lines showed real up fast. Got my answer in two seconds.
Then I called my husband who was at the grocery store and told him I couldn’t breathe. In between me catching my breath, I blurted out that I was pregnant.
Even though things were starting to add up, I was still in shock.
He was surprised and excited. Hearing that made me realize “we got this.”
And for more news, when my doctor confirmed the pregnancy, I found out I was 20 weeks and 5 days! How crazy that my pregnancy is already half way over.
I’m feeling good, just getting bigger by the day. But, now, it’s time to prep for our new addition.
My three kids are excited and are looking forward to our family expanding. What’s one more, anyway?!
For those keeping score at home, my oldest is 6, then I have a 4-year-old and a 2 and a half year old.
My husband and I have talked on and off about having one more but I was kind of leaving it up to the universe. Guess I was late to the party!
Baby #4 is due May 12. Between now and then I’ll be sharing a bit more of my journey, so stay tuned!

Congrats!!!! When I was younger (before kids) I couldn’t imagine how someone wouldn’t know they’re preggers. Now with kids, and knowing the constant mad dashing around and the exhaustion, I totally get it! Here’s to a healthy and happy pregnancy!
