Let me start this by saying I love Christmas. I will continue to say that over and over in my head as I continue to write this.
Back in November my husband, toddler, dog and I went to a local tree farm to tag our tree. That’s nothing unusual right?
So we’re there, looking at all of the beautiful trees when my husband said he really wanted to get a larger tree this year. Like 10-footer larger….so I was like OK, sure, that could be fun.
Stay with me…
We have high ceilings in our great room above the garage so we knew it would fit height wise, what we didn’t know was how difficult it would be to get in the house.
For some reason, the tree farm didn’t net the tree or wrap it with rope, so as you can see in the picture it is literally just hanging out in all its glory.
I had this genius idea of putting a tree bag around it to protect my house from needles, but it didn’t fit and it lasted about 2 seconds before it ripped on its way into the front of the house.
We enlisted my neighbor’s help to get the tree into our house. I feel bad, because both he and my husband were legit sweating trying to push it through all of the hallways and stairs. However, they were laughing the entire time about how ridiculous our plan was going. The tree scraped everything in its path!
While I giggled a lot watching them shove this tree throughout my house, I also was freaking out a bit. There were needles EVERYWHERE! And the sap from the tree was so fresh, it was running down my walls and doors like wet paint. I’ve never seen anything like it!
Luckily I was able to wash the walls and they are OK, but my husband is on vacuum duty pretty much until the end of time.
To quote him, he said, “This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done.” haha Guess we were both blinded by our love for Christmas that we never thought we’d be going from fun to Griswold in a matter of minutes.
Long story short, the tree is standing. My husband had to actually DRILL the tree stand in to the floor to ensure that it doesn’t topple. Sounds like a lot of work if you ask me! Did I mention we also have a smaller tree, albeit an artificial one, in our living room on the first floor?
I’m starting to love that little tree. No mess and it’s only 6 feet. Suddenly it seems so Charlie Brown compared to the monster that’s in our great room.
Don’t mind the pictures, my iPhone was acting cooky, but I had to share them.
So…. the tree is up and standing and we are supposed to decorate it tonight! Crossing my fingers we have enough lights and ornaments. If not, I figure we can just decorate the front!
P.S. The only reason I’m a tiny bit stressed about the hugeness of this lovely tree is that I’m almost 35 weeks pregnant and we have a gazillion other things happening in our house right now. But, I will be a sport and embrace it. As they say, “Christmas comes but once a year.”
Who doesn’t love a good carnival?! Apparently me, that’s who.

AWESOME! We always do the fake tree (because of our cat), but I would love to do something like this sometime!

I think after Christmas this year I will buy a tall artificial one. ๐ They’ll be 1/2 off and we can then have a big tree next year without the mess!
Dodging Acorns says
oh my goodness that is huge!!!! But does fit that space perfectly ๐
Courtney says
haha that is true! At least it fits the space, that would have been a whole other problem. ๐
Sarah @ simply mommies says
This is awesome. I love it! My husband had to drill/rig our tree stand into some heavy wood to keep our cat from knocking the tree down when she was a kitten. I still have tree marks on my celing and wall from that!
Courtney says
No way! Glad we’re not the only ones whipping the drill out. That was the first time I had heard of a resolution like that! ๐
martinkadelux says
You are a Christmas Warrior! Go mama! I think it will be super fun to decorate- I WISH we had room for a tree like that! I cannot wait to see your decorated pictures.
Courtney says
Aw thanks! I’m thinking this might be the first and last time we do something this ambitious. I def need more ornaments!
Heather @ Kraus House Mom says
It looks great. My tree falls over every year. The wall next to where the tree goes has all sorts of drill holes (we cover them with pictures).
Courtney says
Aw thanks! I hope so!

You will never forget this year’s tree. My sister did the same thing a few years back, but her 7 foot tree died a week before Christmas. I hope your tree stands the test of time!
Courtney says
So true! Glad I have the blog post to remember it by! ๐
Kameron @ My Wrinkle in Time says
Wow, that is a lot of work!! I think getting lights on that huge tree will be even more fun! lol
Courtney says
Haha I know! I’m glad I have an excuse to not get on the ladder. I’ll just stick to ornament hanging!
Joanna says
Your tree looks great! I love that you had to drill it to the floor! Great memories ๐
Courtney says
LOL I know right?! You can see the power cord right in front of the tree. So crazy!!
melissa weintraub (@dentistmel) says
That is one humungous tree! I love it!
Courtney says
Thanks Melissa! Pics to come hopefully!
Megan (@MegRTaylor) says
Wow….that is a big tree!! It does look good in the room though ๐
Courtney says
haha thanks! That room is a mess!
Candice (@TheNewModernMom) says
Glad you got a good laugh out of that. That is one BIG tree. I can’t wait to see it all decorated. Guess you will need a ladder for a lot of it. I imagine it will be beautiful and all your family and friends will have tree envy. What did Chloe think?
Courtney says
She said “Mommy, that tree is huge!” haha Understatement of the year. I will most definitely have to post a pic. I just ran to Michaels on my lunch break to buy more ornaments! ๐
