Thank you to Mystic Aquarium for inviting my family to visit their new Northern Lights exhibit this year.
Like many, when it comes to holiday traditions, we have our favorites. There are things my family and I do year after year that are can’t miss during the season.
Some of those traditions, include, driving around the state looking at festive holiday displays, tagging our tree, baking cookies, making ornaments and watching as many Christmas movies as we can.
We welcomed a new tradition this year at Mystic Aquarium. They recently opened a first-ever nighttime experience called Northern Lights.
Illuminated by a re-creation of the aurora borealis, Northern Lights takes visitors on a journey along the lighted pathways of the Aquarium’s outdoor habitats, which include beluga whales, fur seals, and sea lions!
Guests can also watch local ice carvers, enjoy live entertainment and indulge in hot chocolate and s’mores. And, you can learn from Mystic’s animal trainers and researchers stationed throughout the facility.
We were so fortunate to visit this event on a “warm” winter night. It was 54 degrees and enjoyable to be outside.
The kids enjoyed being at the aquarium after dark, especially since the pathways were lighted for the holiday. Such a special experience!
On our way out, my three older children “sent a wish” to the men and women serving in the military overseas this holiday season. Such a wonderful sentiment and gentle reminder to our kids that not everyone is able to spend the holiday at home with family. This gesture was a nice way to close out the evening.
If you’d like to experience the Northern Lights exhibit, tickets are on sale now!
The event began December 7th and takes place every following Thursday, Friday and Saturday until January 4 from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Ticket sales will take place online only and guests will be able to select a time entry of 6 p.m., 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.
